Roles and members

Who can do what in a house, and how to share the running of it.

What are the different roles in Cazmate?

Cazmate has 3 main roles:

  • •Admin: full access to the house's settings, members and organisation. Approves stays and expenses when approval is switched on. Example: the owner or the parent who runs things.
  • •Member: access to the everyday features (calendar, tasks, inventory, notes). Can create and edit content. Example: adult children, brothers and sisters.
  • •Guest: limited access. Sees the calendar (which dates are taken, but not by whom), notes visible to everyone and the Guestbook; plus the address, codes, Wi-Fi and practical information as soon as one of their stays is approved. Can request a stay, write in the Guestbook and update inventory quantities, but can't create notes. Example: a friend passing through, a seasonal tenant.

How do secondary roles work?

Secondary roles let you delegate specific responsibilities without giving full admin access. They come on top of a main role. There are four of them:

  • •Calendar: approves bookings and events.
  • •Finances: manages income and expenses, and approves them.
  • •House works: manages house works and their categories.
  • •Task lists: manages the task lists.

On the Starter plan (free): 1 admin, unlimited members and guests. Role delegation and multiple admins are part of Premium.

What's the difference between an admin and a secondary role?

The admin runs the whole house: settings, members, invitations, overall organisation. Secondary roles hand over one specific job without opening up every permission. That way you can share responsibilities while keeping a clear framework.

How do I invite members?

From the house settings, tap Invite members and choose the person's role. You can invite them by email, share a link or an invitation code with them, or pick them from your phone's contacts.

Can I change a member's role?

Yes, at any time from the house settings. The admin can change the main role and add or remove secondary roles as needs or family circumstances change.

How do I remove a member?

From member management, tap the member in question and select Remove from the house. The member loses access immediately. Only admins can do this, and nobody can remove the house's founder. Paying for the subscription doesn't protect anyone from being removed: the person removed keeps access to their subscriptions page and can cancel at any time. If they cancel, the house keeps its access until the end of the period already paid for.

How many members can I invite?

There's no limit. The subscription is tied to the house, not to people. All invited members get free access to the house's features.

How many administrators can there be?

On the Starter plan, one admin per house. With the Premium plan, you can have as many admins as you like. We recommend at least 2 admins so nothing gets stuck if one of them isn't available.

Do I have to be the owner to create a house?

No. Anyone responsible for organising things can create the house: the owner, the life tenant, a family representative or someone chosen by the group. What matters is that the other members agree.

Can I leave a house?

Yes. Any member, admins included, can leave a house whenever they like, whether or not they pay for the subscription. The founder is the exception: they can't leave the house they created. If they want to go, they contact us at contact@cazmate.com to transfer ownership of the house to another member. Before you leave, the app tells you what this involves, for example debts still to settle or a house left without an admin. A subscription you pay for isn't stopped automatically: cancel it from the website or the app if you paid by card, or from the App Store or Play Store if you bought it on mobile.
